Add tests to pig-latin exercise

Great! Going to work on PR now.

Just want to make one thing clear before moving on: which variant to use? If I will use glennj variant, is that ok?

That’s the one with explicit approvals, yes.

Good, I will use glennj variant.

Added a new pull request to resolve the issue: [pig-latin] reimplement a test which had an incorrect value by Aksima · Pull Request #2699 · exercism/problem-specifications · GitHub

For the future work, I am curious if you have any idea to retrieve a text from forum discussion using only basic tools (curl, wget) and no graphical interface.

Since development machines usually do not have any GUI.

Got an idea with the help of AI. It actually turned out to be very simple.

According to the information provided, forum at forum.exercism.org runs on Discourse software, which automatically exposes a structured JSON API for its content. The key is to find the topic ID from the URL of the discussion.

For example, let us take URL of current discussion:

https://forum.exercism.org/t/add-tests-to-pig-latin-exercise/95998

The number at the end (95998) is the topic ID.

We can then use this topic ID to fetch the JSON representation. This includes the first 20 posts by default.

curl -s "https://forum.exercism.org/t/95998.json"

Not so fast. For example, glennj’s test case proposal if after first 20 posts and is not included in JSON. I need to investigate further.

You don’t need to retrieve anything from the forum. You can copy/paste into your editor. You can use existing solution code to generator and/or check the expected output. If you want to be fancy/thorough, you can use your existing solution along with a JSON parser to validate the data in the canonical data … or, on tracks with a test generator, generate tests using the new data.

I made all checks I could do for latest pull request.

It got 3 approvals and has been merged.

FYI, this is what is looks like to PR the new test into a track:

an updated test for multiword translation by glennj · Pull Request #198 · exercism/moonscript

Test generators FTW!

Can I help with any PR to update test in a track? I can handle F# for sure.

Cool! Test generators are really a good help. I remember working on test generator on groovy track, so maybe this track can be updated via test generator too.

F# is maintained by Erik. He’s generally open to sync PRs. Make sure you read all the instructions and use the configlet sync tool. F# has a generators directory but I have no idea how they work. The README has some light documentation.

If you’re looking for places to help out, @BNAndras and I have been writing generator templates. See CoffeeScript, Objective C, GDScript. I’m hoping to start on C templates soon, too.

Pull request to F# track is ready:

@ErikSchierboom, can you review it please?

Maintainers got busy lives and sometimes take a while until they can review. No need to ping. Give Erik some time :)
