GitHub Actions runner breaking changes announced

It passes although the gnucobol-3.2.7-cobolcheck-v1 isn’t found in the cache. I suspect that’s simply because this is the first run so there’d be nothing to cache yet, but I thought I’d flag it in case I’m wrong.

Next round of major OS updates announced: GitHub will move to macos-15 from early in August, 2025, and remove macos-13 near the end of the year.

Dates for removing macos-13 runner images are settled
Node 20 deprecation and replacement by Node 24 including a timeline for removal of Node 20 in 2026

macos-13 is only used in a few spots apparently.

Ready to switch to Ubuntu 26: Ubuntu 26 generally available and latest migration - GitHub Changelog

Maintainers should switch to Ubuntu 26 for their tracks. There is no announced phasing out of Ubuntu 24, so no pressure yet.

Don’t forget to switch to macos-26, too. The image is available since a while, and macos-14 is still supported. So no pressure here, too.

I just found that macos-14 indeed has a phase-out date announced already: Switch to macos-26 or macos-15 before 2026-11-02!
