Beauty Salon Goes Global should depend on Exceptions

I’m going through the C# concept tree in order. Beauty Salon Goes Global asks you to parse a date string and return a default value if the input is invalid, which I assume should use System.DateTime.Parse. However, System.DateTime.Parse throws exceptions, but Beauty Salon Goes Global does not (transitively) depend on Exceptions.

DateTime.Parse() does raise an exception. However, the instructions didn’t require you to handle such a situation. So how might you parse a date and time string without dealing with exceptions?

I’m not sure? There is TryParse which returns a bool instead of throwing, but that uses reference parameters, which is also not a dependency and is much further down the concept tree.
