Errors using the Github sync feature

Hello!

Back to Exercism after a few months away and was super excited to see the new Github sync feature!

It provides plenty of options, and remove the need for my custom scripts as its way better than them.

I used it to sync all my tracks with a brand new repo and was pretty happy on it worked out. However, I faced 2 issues that I’d like to report:

  1. It didn’t allow me to use the “Backup Everything” option. I clicked the button and nothing happened. No feedback on the page and the repo kept empty for a few minutes. I decided to try again, but this time with the console open. I noticed a bugsnag request with an error. See attached the HAR file containing that request.
  2. Since the “Backup Everything” option didn’t work, I selected every track one-by-one and kicked a “backup track” request for each one. Despite all requests showing a toast with the confirmation that the request was successful, it didn’t backup the Haskell and PowerShell tracks. I was confused by this initially, but when I went to check, it was because while I joined these tracks, I had no public exercises in them. A suggestion here would be to not include tracks where there are no exercises in the dropdown.

Github Sync config at the time of the error:

Processing method: Commit directly → main branch
Sync behavior: Automatic
Iteration files: The full exercise
File structure: $track_slug/$exercise_slug
Commit message template: [Sync $sync_object] $track_slug/$exercise_slug/$iteration_idx
