Loving the platform so far, but I had an idea to help with accountability. Learning to code alone can get pretty tough, so it would be awesome if we could have a “Friend Streak” feature (kind of like Duolingo).
Basically, you would link up with a friend, and your shared streak only stays alive if you both complete a lesson or exercise that day. It would add a really cool social element and keep people motivated to code together.
Exercism already “supports” this with private mentor requests. Or at least it does not get in your way of doing so.
If you think that it will help with motivation, get with your friend and ask them to work on exercises with you, and have you review each others exercises.
Keep track of your streak with a calendar and encourage each other.
That said, it could be a feature that gets programmed into the system at some point and I am sure that the team appreciates the idea coming in!
My point is to not let a system that does not have a feature, but does not block what you want to do, stop you from having what you want to have! (And the Exercism API, while not documented, is available for you to create your own solutions for this as well! That sounds like a potential “programming challenge” to complete with each other as well.)
