I requested mentoring on a couple of problems, the first one was the paralell letter frequency. After waiting for 10 days, despite it saying “average wait time 8 hours” I canceled it because I have limited mentoring slots. But now again I’ve been waiting for several days now for a mentor on binary tree, as well as the zebra puzzle. I know it’s a free website and I greatly appreciate it, even without the mentoring, I don’t mean to whine here, I was just wondering what’s the deal, because the average wait times are definitely not 8 hours, at least not for me.
Since mentorship, as with anything here, is done by volunteers, it all depends on people having the time, knowledge and disposition to mentor.
Harder exercises usually take longer to be picked up by a mentor, both because there are fewer people who feel they know enough to mentor them and because they usually take much more time to review. And people are doing this in their free time.
The current mentoring queue for C++ has 15 items. The oldest is 9 days old. About half are requests opened in the last 24 hours.
Challenging exercises tend to take longer to get picked up. If you want more general coding reviews, you can first get feedback on easier exercises. Those get picked up much faster and you can learn a surprising amount from discussing your solutions with a mentor, even on an easier exercise.
I see, I am happy to be patient and wait, I just wanted to see if someone still checked these at all. Thanks for the replies!
