Tell us all the things that i18n broke!

The README.md at the root of the Raku track GitHub repo shouldn’t be part of the i18n effort. The commands mentioned in the snippet match the ones provided by the justfile at raku/justfile at main · exercism/raku · GitHub.

On the “Contribute → Explore Tasks” page, a space is missing between “of” and “Concepts” in some tooltips:

This task requires advanced Exercism knowledge. You’ll need to have a solid understanding ofConcepts to work on this task.

Not sure if this is i18n, but:

“session” should be “sessions”

Reads a little odd, especially “discover things they don’t know” it’s putting a hat on a hat. So maybe

Another i18n issue reported at I18n issue on ChatGPT upsell

I’m still getting the <strong>ChatGPT HTML bug. Not only has it been 11 days, I found a report from 4 months ago.

Jeremy’s primary focus has been launching the new bootcamp. Once that’s complete, he’ll be more free to look at our stuff.

Hi,

While solving an exercise in the C++ track, I saw the “Attain real fluency in C++” section doesn’t show what I assume should be the intended text description. Reloading the page didn’t fix it, so I think it’s not a loading issue on my side.

This popped up in GitHub, and I suspect it’s related to i18n:

Fix duplicate "You can always change later." text and stray period in Python track welcome modal · Issue #6779 · exercism/exercism · GitHub

When you hover over flairs in the discussion with the mentor, you see this. Seems like an i18n-related bug.

This is not a bug its just title of the icon.

It should be a regular title (as all our meaningful icons have accessible names), so I also believe it’s a bug

This is the code that displays the icon app/javascript/components/common/HandleWithFlair.tsx in it the title is flair.flair_name. If this is a bug then it should be somtheing like this flair_name.split("_").join("") this will remove the “flair.” name and will format and remove the underscore.

The code for solving this is at app/javascript/components/editor/FeedbackPanel/FeedbackPanelRequestMentoring.tsx where you have to replace whyGetFeedbackDescription with learningALanguage. I did work on a PR but because I didn’t discuss it here and got approval it might not get merged.

The issue is not that code. The function t translates the given key (flair.xxx) to some string. There are two issues:

  1. If there is no such key, this will never work (likely)
  2. If gettext or similar is being used to generate for example a PO file, this also doesn’t work (needs static strings).

I don’t know which of these are applicble.

That said, that repository does not take any PRs.
