Updates on the Go track

Hello fellow Gophers.

I recently joined the Exercism Go track maintainers and have been making some updates to the track. If the changes gave anyone a hard time, I do apologize for that. I hope the track is now in a healthier state for those changes.

Some of the recent changes include,

  1. The test runner now supports Go 1.26. Updating the exercise files (eg go.mod) should happen in the next week or so. If you work locally, you can use v1.26 but web UI users will need to wait for that.
  2. Package and module names have been updated to match the exercise slug (what you see in the URL), with any - removed. This changed the package name for a whole lot of exercises and may have broken your solution. This helped clean up duplicate package names and makes future maintenance easier.
  3. Exercise test cases (for most exercises) were updated with the latest test data from the problem spec.
  4. New practice exercises were added.
  5. All test files should now be visible in the web editor.
  6. Exercises should now all be sorted by difficulty then name.

That’s wonderful news!

  • The Go track is now running 1.26.
  • When running tests on the website, the “CODE RUN” section of test failures now shows detailed information about the failed test. This existed before but was not working correctly for many exercises; this should now work for all exercises. If you see this not working for any exercise, let me know!
  • For the practice exercises, all the test files (importantly the cases_test.go files) should appear in the editor UI, making it easier to see what is being tested.
  • More exercises have been given test generators and synced with the canonical data.
