Updating Kotlin and Gradle

Would the maintainers be ok for me to look into updating the Kotlin and Gradle version for the Kotlin track?

While working on the when concept, I found the Kotlin version used by the track doesn’t support guard conditions (introduced in 2.2). I was also thinking to update Gradle at the same time as Gradle 8.4 can’t run in a Java 25 JVM.

FWIW the Java test runner uses gradle:9.5.0-jdk25@sha256:03305b464e024b29cfaad1c4a41fed61d06d15453176d2180f65bd4358b789a6. Reusing the same hash when reasonable to do so allows sharing layers and reducing storage costs.

Yes and yes.

@kahgoh I may not have said it before but you have perpetual permission to do this and more for Kotlin. Your work has been great.

I have just noticed that the kotlin version used in the Protein Translation exercise is 1.6.0. (I could not use data object for example).
The file settings.gradle.kts is I think setting the kotlin version to 1.6.0.

I opened the forum to look for relevant posts and found this one. I think that updating the Kotlin version would be very useful. Thank you for your effort.
