Looking to contribute to the Go track? Help populate prereqs/topics!

Add “prerequisites” and “practices” to Practice Exercises is an older issue that’s still open and even more relevant as we add more exercises. If you’re looking to get involved, I’d be happy for some contributions here.

Sure, were there specific exercises you wanted feedback on?

I haven’t touched that part of the config so the prereqs/topics needs filling in for many of them. Feel free to PR directly or, if you’d prefer, you can suggest using this Google Sheet.

I did an initial pass.

Ideally, each concept would be linked to 3-8 practice exercises. Below are concept exercises grouped by the number of practice exercises linked to each.

Concepts with 0, 1, or 2 practices would benefit from more practice exercises, if any seem like a good fit.

Number of practice exercises Concepts
0 comments, conditionals-switch, functions, pointers, range-iteration, stringers, strings, strings-package, structs, type-assertion, type-conversion, type-definitions, zero-values
1 comparison, conditionals-if, packages
2 booleans, first-class-functions, floating-point-numbers, interfaces, methods, numbers, randomness, regular-expressions, runes, time
3 maps, string-formatting, variadic-functions
4 arithmetic-operators, basics, errors, slices
5 for-loops

Below are practice exercises, grouped by difficulty. When possible, less difficult exercises are better exercises to use when linking to concepts.

The “4” category is pretty overrepresented, while 7, 8, and 9 are pretty empty. We probably want to shift some exercises upwards to distribute things a bit better.

I’m trying not to use the same exercise for too many concepts. Currently Collatz is over the line, linked against 4 exercises.
